DESERET

About

The Deseret alphabet is a phonetic writing system created in the 19th century by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It was designed to represent the sounds of the English language more accurately than the traditional Latin alphabet. I am a research assistant under University of Illinois professors Ryan Shosted and Neal Davis, working on a project to digitize and analyze the Deseret alphabet manuscripts. This project aims to create a Deseret corpus, to preserve this unique writing system and make it accessible for future research.
